A police officer from St. Louis County with ties to the Riverbend has died following a shooting this morning in south St. Louis.  33-year-old Officer Blake Snyder, originally from Godfrey, was shot as he was exiting his vehicle during a traffic stop in the Green Park area of the county.  Another officer shot the suspect, who is in serious condition.  The second officer was not hurt.

Trenton Forster, of South County, now faces first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges. He was ordered held on $1 million bail. St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar says Snyder was shot and killed at 5:06am while responding to a disturbance call in Trenton Forsterthe 10,700 block of Arnold Drive.

Snyder had been with the St. Louis County Police Department for the last four years.  Officer Snyder leaves behind a wife and a 2-year-old son. He was a 2001 graduate of Alton High School and and had worked as a summer employee with the Godfrey Park & Recreation Department about 10 years ago.
