Members of several law enforcement agencies converged on a home in Alton Thursday, apparently looking for weapons. A Jersey County search warrant was executed and a handful of people were taken into custody during the operation that lasted several hours in the 1100 block of Putnam Street.
Jerseyville Police obtained the search warrant for the residence as part of an investigation into an arrest of an East Alton man for residential burglary. 35-year-old Chad A. McAdams was arrested in Greene County on warrants for residential burglary. Authorities believe after a burglary in Jerseyville earlier this week, McAdams took stolen weapons to the Putnam Street residence. The Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System, or ILEAS, helped Jerseyville Police conduct the raid, which included three armored personnel carriers and another support vehicle. After arriving on the scene about 8am, police used loudspeaker announcements outside the home before several people inside surrendered without incident. The operation latest about three hours and in addition to the arrests, police removed a handgun, money and drugs from the home.
