Illinois State Police, and police in Gillespie, are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy from the town.  Emergency workers found the child unresponsive after a 9-1-1 call on Saturday afternoon and he was transported to a St. Louis hospital where he died on Monday.

The child, identified only as Ryder, was in the care of a friend of his mother at the time emergency responders were called to the home around 12:40pm on Saturday in the 500 block of Western in Gillespie.  The adult who was caring for the child at the time was reportedly a boyfriend of the mother who was living at the home.  Police report the child was suffering from critical injuries when they arrived on the scene on Saturday.  No charges have been filed in the case, but the death and the circumstances surrounding it, remain under investigation.
