Alton Police are investigating an armed robbery Friday afternoon outside the Laclede Community Credit Union in North Alton. The suspect tried to gain access through the lobby door, which was impossible as the bank recently converted to drive-thru only service following a series of hold-ups over the past year or so. The suspect then turned to another female customer who was also trying to enter the bank, and ran off with her purse after displaying what appeared to be a handgun.
He fled on foot. Police are looking for a black male wearing a black hoodie and something covering his face. Witnesses or anyone else with any information should call the Alton Police Department at 463-3505.
Checking other overnight police activity, East Alton Police were holding 24-year-old Zacharias A. Tharp of the 200 block of Virginia Avenue for domestic battery and on a warrant. Wood River Police were holding 30-year-old Christopher S. Ferguson of Wood River on a parole violation.
