With New Years Eve just a day away, local law enforcement agencies will be stepping up to crack down on drunk driving. In addition to increased patrols the Alton Police Department is encouraging you to plan ahead and designate a sober driver if you plan to go out and celebrate.
That message is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Thunderclap initiative according to Alton Police Public Information Officer Emily Hejna. She says the program includes a social media aspect.
Hejna says that being designated as the sober driver for your friends doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time. She recommends drinking soda or water if you receive that designation from your group because you might have to get back behind the wheel unexpectedly.
