Members of the Alton Police Department are meeting their newest officer – a K9 named Nikko. The German Sheppard was born and raised in the Czech Republic, but had not been able to travel to the Midwest due to weather conditions on the East Coast. The weather finally broke, and Detective Marcos Pulido picked up his new partner on Thursday.
Public Information Officer Emily Hejna says school starts for the two next week.

Nikko was named as part of a contest in which donors of $1,000 or more to the fundraising campaign were allowed to cast their vote over a 24-hour period.
