Police officers do not receive training on dogfighting, but that could soon change. State Rep. Kelly Burke (D-Evergreen Park) worked with the Cook County sheriff’s office to create a bill that would add animal fighting awareness to police training.

“If law enforcement had some more specific training on how to recognize dogfighting and just create awareness, it would make them easier to find these rings and break them up and get those dogs out of those types of conditions,” Burke said.
