A number of local police agencies will be taking part in a training exercise today and again on Thursday in which an active shooter scenario is played out at East Alton – Wood River High School.  During the training you may see a large number of first responders at the school, and hear the sounds of simulated gunfire, small explosions, sirens and firearms and fire alarms coming from the school.

Wood River Police Chief Otis Steward tells The Big Z while realistic, plenty of safety precautions are in place.

It is possible that some local streets will be temporarily closed during the exercise.  Training will be held from 8am – 4pm both days.
