A guilty plea has been entered by the killer of an Alton man. Investigators say 34-year-old Rodney Mike shot and killed JaMarco Anthony at Anthony's 24th birthday party on May 9, 2010. JaMarco Anthony's brother Jerrod was also shot, and was in a coma for several days as a result. Mike pleaded guilty on Friday to 2nd Degree Murder Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. His trial was scheduled to begin on Monday.
He received a sentence of 20 years on the murder and 6 years on the battery to run consecutively. He must serve at least 50% on the 20 year sentence and 85% on the 6 year sentence. About a year and a half ago, Anthony's family filed a wrongful death civil suit against Mike. The family is seeking in excess of $50,000 in the case, but the goal is to have the $100,000 available to the victim's children upon the conclusion of both the civil and criminal matters.
