Illinoisans who like to recycle could soon add plastic bags to their bins. Under a bill which has passed the legislature and is awaiting the governor’s action, plastic bags and thinner, filmy plastics would be covered by a new statewide recycling program.   Bob Pfister, Illinois chairman of the National Solid Waste Management Association, applauds the bill:

“It’ll eliminate one of the waste streams that normally go into the garbage. It’ll give us the opportunity to tailor collection programs to people so they can address the type of materials they should be disposing of,” he said.   Pfister says his counterparts in manufacturing and retailing also worked with lawmakers on the bill
