Plans for a new hotel located on Homer Adams Parkway in Alton continue to move forward as the developer prepares for a public hearing with the City Plan Commission next month. Shivan Hotel LLC, who also owns the Super 8 motel and Comfort Inn in Alton, has petitioned the City Council for a text amendment that would change a portion of the Zoning Ordinance to allow a four story or 48 foot tall building to be constructed within a General Commercial area.
The ordinance, as it is currently written, limits buildings to three stories or 45 feet in height in those designated zones, which complicates the developer's plan to build a four story, 80 room Hampton Inn and Suites just north of the Best Western Motel along Homer Adams Parkway. In addition to the bedrooms, the hotel would also include a business center, meeting rooms, a marketplace and gift shop and an indoor swimming pool.
The City Plan Commission will discuss the issue at its August 6th meeting.
