Organizers spearheading an effort to build a statue of Miles Davis in downtown Alton are one step closer to achieving that goal after receiving a statement from the Davis' family attorney. Pride, Inc, board member Pat Ackman says that they have given that response to their own legal team for review. Once they sign off on it, she says committees will be formed to carry the rest of the project to fruition.
Ackman says this statue could lead to something big.
She also says that once a location for the statue has been chosen, anyone from the Alton area will be invited to help with the project. The statue will be placed somewhere in the downtown entertainment district. Davis was born in Alton in 1926 and his family moved to East St. Louis a year later.
