From tornadoes to flooding, 2013 was a rough year for Piasa Harbor on the Great River Road. An April tornado tossed boats around and destroyed a dock, and the flooding that came in the months after killed all of the grass on what has evolved from a commercial dock to a park that is available for anyone to use. The Executive Director of the Great Rivers Land Trust, which owns the land, says 2014 will be a year of bouncing back.
Allie Ringhausen says the area has seen a total transformation since they purchased the land.

He says the gas station is still operational, but is fully automated. The land trust also owns the land across the highway that used to be Harris’ Tavern, and has cleaned up that property as well.
