The Alton Area Animal Aid Association is always eager to find homes for its dogs and cats, but cautions against giving animals as Christmas presents. Although it can be a blessing to receive an animal, there are also some large responsibilities that go with receiving that gift

5A's Executive Director Ric Jun says many pets that are given as gifts eventually wind up at one of the area shelters.

If you would like to help the 5A's but don't feel adopting a pet is right for you, you may want to take a trip to Wood River. The 5A's Thrift Shop, located just across Wood River Avenue from the Aquatic Center and Roundhouse, and is full of items you won't likely find on store shelves in larger locations. The shop is open from 10am-3pm Tuesdays through Saturdays.
