The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is urging families to make sure their disaster preparedness plans include their pets.  Just like people should have an emergency kit on hand should disaster strike, pets should also have their own stock of items, according to IEMA spokesman Patti Thompson.

Thomson says it also doesn't hurt to plan ahead and think about where you would go with your pet if you have to evacuate your home, since many shelters don't allow animals.
