Charges are not expected to be filed against the driver of the vehicle that hit a pedestrian walking along the Great River Road Saturday night. The unidentified victim is a man in his late 20's and is not from this area, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Department. He apparently was walking in the roadway in the southbound lanes just before the impact.
He is currently in critical but stable condition at a St. Louis area hospital. The sheriff's department began getting calls about a man walking in the roadway just after 10:30, and dispatched deputies to do a welfare check. As they were on their way, the man was struck, and the driver of that vehicle pulled over and immediately called 911. He is said to have cooperated fully with investigators, and there was no indication he was impaired. The incident happened near Clifton Terrace.
