A man was struck and killed on I-270 this morning after apparently attempting to cross the highway following a crash. The incident happened just before 6:30am near the Illinois 157 exit, when the man was struck by a pickup truck traveling eastbound. The man is not being identified, pending notification of his family.
The man had just rear-ended a Mack truck in the eastbound lanes and pulled off of the lefthand side of the highway, according to Illinois State Police Trooper Calvin Dye.
The driver of the truck was not ticketed. Dye says it is unknown if the rise in elevation played a role in the crash. The interstate has since re-opened.
