Flags on all state and local government buildings in Illinois and Missouri will be flown at half-staff today for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. It's to commemorate those who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7th, 1941. More than 24-hundred Americans were killed in the surprise attack by Japan, and more than 12-hundred Americans were wounded. Nearly two dozen American ships were either sunk or damaged in the attack. The action lead to the United States entering World War II the next day.
A special ceremony will take place today at 9am at Alton VFW Post 1308 to mark the occasion.
