Republican lawmakers say union state workers may need to hold off on any pay raises in the near future. The current contract with AFSCME, which represents over 40 thousand state employees, expires June 30th. New contract negotiations are already underway, and House Minority Leader Tom Cross says a pay freeze may be appropriate.

Cross has also introduced a resolution giving the legislature more of a say in the union negotiation process, which is typically conducted between union leaders and the governor’s office.
