District Finances were at the heart of last night’s school board meeting in Alton as school board members unanimously approved a 1.6-percent raise for administrators, with the exception of Superintendent Dr. Ken Spells, who offered a salary freeze for the coming budget year.

Dr. Spells says his focus continues to be on what is happening in the classroom:

Even with the pay raises, Dr. Spells (pictured) said the district will spend $28-thousand less for the salary increases than it did a year ago.

In related business, representatives from Scheffel and Company briefed board members on the audit of the district’s 2012 budget, which they characterized as “very favorable”; and district officials also voted to repay interfunded loans by shifting nearly $9-million between various funds within the district’s 2012-13 budget.
