The American Academy of Periodontology estimates that 64.7-million Americans suffer from an advanced form of gum disease.  In an effort to reduce that number the SIU School of Dental Medicine in Alton is taking part in a nationwide study entitled "Biomarkers of Periodontal Disease Progression".  Dr. Nathalia Garcia, a periodontist at the dental school says they are looking for volunteers to participate in the study.

Dr. Bruce Rodder, Dean of the dental school, explains how the study will work.
