Labor Day parades were held across the metro area on Monday to mark the contributions of organized labor in the United States.  Parades were held yesterday in Granite City, Belleville and in downtown St. Louis.  Labor unity and slogans like "We are the 99-percent" were common at all three gatherings that were well attended despite the early threat of rain.

Dozens of different unions from around the region were represented at all three parades.  The Greater Madison County Federation of Labor sponsored the parade in Granite City, and it also sponsors the pre-Labor Day parade that was held in Alton the last Saturday of August.
