Recent reports of people being approached at gas stations and shopping centers and being asked for money have been circulating around social media over the past few months. The common line is they are nearly out of gas or need to buy food for their kids.  Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons tells The Big Z you should use caution when dealing with these people:

While these panhandlers may simply be asking for money, others may be using the initial contact to lure you into a situation where you can be robbed or worse.  Simmons says to trust your instincts if something seems odd about a situation.
