Hundreds are gathering in downtown Staunton today to kick off a week long project called "Paint the Town". Volunteers, local merchants and youth groups from the Assembly Church of Staunton will spend the rest of the week giving back to their community with the goal of giving the town a much needed face lift.
Rev. Nathan Nelson of Assembly Church says that the project will give the youth many opportunities to give back.
The "Paint The Town" project came about after Youth Pastors Rev. Nathan and Peggy Nelson from the Assembly Church of Staunton approached Mayor Craig Neuhaus about getting the members of their youth group involved with a service project.
All of the materials being used for the project were donated by Bob Plummer of R.P. Lumber and William Lissimore of Glidden Paint.
