The Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary is hosting a paddling event this weekend. Tomorrow is Youth Day, and Saturday is the Public Day. You can learn to paddle, meet Lewis & Clark, see live fish up close with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and take part in a service project with the Sierra Club.
It's all part of the Summer of Paddling, which is a series of events being held up and down the Mississippi River this summer, according to Alton Regional Convention & Visitor's Bureau President Brett Stawar.
On Public Day, there will be guided paddling excursions on Ellis Bay and visitors will learn about geocaching and more. Organizers say the overall goal is to preserve the corridor, which is rich in history, culture, lore and wildlife.
