Nine-point-three million dollars will be coming to East Alton. That is the amount of a government contract awarded to Olin's Winchester Division. The United States Army has awarded the the contract to procure shotshell cartridges to the long-time fixture in the manufacturing community.
Olin is relocating the Centerfire Manufacturing Operation of the Winchester Division in an attempt to cut costs and boost profits. In 2004, Olin moved the Rimfire Operation and about 150 jobs to Mississippi, taking with it about 150 jobs, where the company can reportedly pay employees in that state $10 an hour less and offer no benefits compared to what it pays in Illinois.
