Alton's St. Mary's Catholic Church will celebrate it's 154th anniversary this weekend with the 5th annual Oktoberfest. It will include a traditional tapping of the keg on Saturday, German and American food, musical entertainment, kids activities, and much more running tonight through Sunday.
Located at the corner of Henry and 4th Streets in Alton, St. Mary's has been a mainstay of the city skyline. Committee member Carolyn Simansky says one of the highlights is their annual outdoor Mass on Sunday at 11am at Garfield Park:
The skillet dinners are cooked in a giant skillet, and include German sausage, potatoes, onions and sauerkraut. There will also be church picnic favorites like hot dogs, burgers and brats. The event opens today at 6pm with music, food and drink, then tomorrow from 1-11pm will all activities open to the public. Sunday hours are Noon-10pm. For more information, go to:
