Standard homeowners and renters insurance policies don't cover flooding so you may want to double check to make sure you're protected. Nearly half of all the counties in Illinois broke flooding records last year. Officials say just a few inches of water can cause tens-of-thousands-of -dollars in damages. It's not a bad idea to make photocopies of all your insurance documents and keep them in a safe place, outside of your home, just in case your home is damaged during a disaster.
