Improvements planned for Riverview Park in Alton are expected to spruce up the nearly century old park, and the city is waiting on a couple of grants to see what will be paid for from the federal and state coffers. Last December, the city applied for a National Scenic Byways Grant to help pay for some improvements, and an OSLAD Grant application was also submitted earlier this year.
The plan is to improve the gazebo, area lighting and sidewalk connectivity at the park. Alton Park & Recreation Deputy Executive Director Rhonda Lewis says a representative of the OSLAD process was in town last week to look at the proposal in person.
The park overlooks the Great River Road, and is the Thursday night home of the Alton Municipal Band during the summer. They hope to be done with the whole project by 2014- the 100 year anniversary of the park.
