East Alton Police confronted a man and woman on Wednesday as the couple was apparently setting up a portable methamphetamine lab near Wood River Creek. Two officers suffered minor burns when the suspects allegedly threw a substance on the officers but were treated and released from a local hospital.
In a prepared statement, East Alton Police report two suspicious persons, previously associated with manufacture of meth, were observed around 12:45pm Wednesday entering the wood line near the creek with a backpack after parking their car on a nearby restaurant parking lot just off Route 3. Officers responded and observed what appeared to be a portable meth operation and confronted the subjects, who threw a substance on the officers and attempted to flee the scene. They were taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit and authorities say they will meet with the Madison County State’s Attorney today to discuss the possible charges against the pair.
