The National Weather Service has confirmed several tornadoes touched down in Illinois in the latest round of storms. At least six twisters were spotted Thursday in parts of Madison, Bond, Faytette, Sangamon, Christian, Effingham, Morgan, and Cass counties.
The NWS says that an EF1 tornado touched down three-miles northeast of Highland and remained on the ground for 12 miles before lifting back into the sky. The twister was said to be an estimated 50 yards wide with winds reaching as high as 105 miles per hour. Damage reports from throughout the state include trees and power lines being taken down and semi-trucks being blown off of roadways.
