The people who run elections in Illinois say almost 7.3 million people are registered to vote in the primary election March 20.  The number – 7,282,639 – is down from the 7.6 million registered for the last primary, in February 2010.

The total registered does not necessarily predict the turnout. The turnout was 71 percent in the general election in November 2008, and 41 percent in that year’s primary.
Early voting continues until March 15.
