Unemployment numbers edged down in Illinois in November. The unemployment rate was 8.7%, compared to 8.8% in October and 9.8% in November 2011. Both comparisons can be viewed as important. “It shows that we are doing better in November than we were in October, and it shows that we were doing significantly better this November than we were last November,” says Greg Rivara, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

“What it does is it emphasizes is that these very small monthly movements do add up over time, and it shows how that trend continues.” Rivara says Illinois added 16,400 jobs for the month, and the total unemployed in the state is 574,600.
