Illinois still has double-digit unemployment and added only 600 jobs in November, according to data released Thursday. But a spokesman for the Illinois Department of Employment Security says things have been much, much worse.

Greg Rivara says the unemployment rate in the state dropped from 10.1 percent to 10 percent. “The 600 number itself? Not as large as a lot of people may think. … (But) during the height of the recession, Illinois was losing about 18,000 jobs every month. This year alone, on average, Illinois has gained about 7,000 jobs each month.”
