Illinois should take note of the recent failure of a measure to legalize recreational and medicinal marijuana in Ohio, according to an advocate. The advice from Dan Linn, the executive director of the Illinois Chapter of NORML, is to ensure any proposed measure in the Land of Lincoln doesn’t limit the free market of legal pot.
Linn says the failure of a ballot initiative in Ohio this week to legalize cannabis was partly because the measure was not a free market approach because it restricted growing operations to just a handful. He says that’s very similar to Illinois’ current Medical Cannabis Pilot Program.

Linn says only allowing a select few investors to benefit from the pilot program could lead to those investors getting some kind of carve out if Illinois ever does legalize and tax pot.
