An attempt to clear some of the parked cars near Olin Park in Alton has begun with the introduction of an ordinance at the Alton City Council Committee of the Whole. The area of State Street near Olin Park often has cars lining both sides of the roadway, and this ordinance is in response to an incident last month in which a toddler was hit by a car after allegedly darting into the street.
Also introduced at last night’s meeting was an ordinance establishing a policy for recycling any materials with monetary values such as scrap metal. Resolutions calling for road closures involving the Miles Davis Statue dedication ant the St. Mary’s Church Oktoberfest were also introduced. The Miles Davis Statue dedication is planned for September 12th, while the Oktoberfest closure is planned for October 9th through the 12th.
