About 200 people signed petitions that have been submitted to Brighton Township in opposition of a possible railroad crossing closing.  The petitions were turned in at the township meeting this week as local residents try to stop a possible closing of the  crossing at Piasa Road.

Allen Jones is a resident and farmer in the area, and tells The Big Z he is staying hopeful.

Repeated attempts to contact Brighton Township have been unsuccessful.  Jones says not only would closing the crossing be inconvenient to those who use the crossing regularly, he also cites safety reasons.  Jones says large farm equipment would be forced to use Highway 267 / 111 more often if the crossing is closed.
