If you plan to benefit from participating in Illinois' Medical Cannabis Pilot Program, you may be liable to pay for the medication out of pocket. Employers, as well as property and casualty insurance companies also want to make sure that they do not have to pay costs associated with medical cannabis. Republican State Representative Dwight Kay, of Glen Carbon, says SB1571 will ensure that all costs fall on the patient.

SB1571 amends the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program to state that the Act does not require any coverage of medical cannabis costs to the patient.
