A Godfrey man will not be charged after a grand jury in Madison County Court declined to indict him with felony distracted driving following an incident in July in Alton.  Police initially said the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed 61 year old Lester W. Anderson of East Alton was on his cell phone when the accident took place.

Police say Doosie W. Roberson, Jr., of Godfrey was initially charged following the incident on Illinois Route 140 near Powder Mill Road, but that Roberson had cooperated with the investigation.  A grand jury yesterday declined to file charges.  At the time he was struck, Anderson was walking along the eastbound shoulder of Route 140 and was struck from behind by the vehicle.  He died at the scene.
