No action was taken by the Alton City Council at a special meeting on Monday. The meeting notice indicated an update on various personnel matters within the city’s police department to be the only topic. The meeting began with a few people speaking and the council then went into executive session for about 90 minutes before reconvening in open session in order to adjourn.
Details of the topics discussed are not known. Today (Wednesday) a special meeting of the Alton Civil Service Commission will be held at City Hall at 9am. The purpose on the notice is the appeal of police Captain Scott Waldrup regarding a two-day suspension. Waldrup was reportedly placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of a missing evidence investigation. In December, the Big Z reported Alton Police Officer Jonathan Forrler was indicted by a Madison County Grand Jury with official misconduct related to the improper disposal of evidence, which impacted 130 criminal cases.
