Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has activated the National Guard in preparation for a grand jury announcement in the Ferguson Police shooting case. Nixon said the role of guard members would be to provide security and not to confront any protestors who may gather after the jury reaches a decision.
St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay added yesterday that National Guard members might be placed at malls and shopping centers as additional security, or outside major businesses. Slay said police officers will remain in their everyday uniforms and would not utilize riot gear unless the situation warrants. A few dozen protestors marched through Clayton on Monday, demanding justice in the shooting of Michael Brown by Ferguson Police officer Darren Wilson during a confrontation in the city on August 9.
