Somewhere in there is a Peoria newsman.
Reporter/editor Chris Kaergard of the Journal Star says the idea to stop shaving during Illinois' budget impasse came to him during a May vacation, and there's no cutting corners now.
“We're going to play this to the hilt,” Kaergard says of the (hopefully?) inevitable conclusion. “There are a few people who want me to get a shave and send the trimmings to the legislative leaders and the governor.”

Kaergard says while that's unlikely, there will be a grand ceremony when it's over, complete with a straight-edge razor.
Kaergard says there have been some interesting social moments, such as older women pulling and pawing at the beard. He describes their reaction as “astonished.”
And, yes, ladies, Kaergard is available.
