The Wood River Police Department has an agreement in place to build a new police station. British Petroleum (BP) has come to an agreement with the city for the construction of a $7.8 million facility to house the department at the southwest corner of Highway 143 at 6th Street.
BP will provide funding and the property. Wood River City Manager Jim Schneider says the current police department offices will be turned into a records storage facility.

The new police station will be about 20-thousand square feet and would include a communications center, eight cells, a sally port, a workout room and locker room and a training facility that could be used by other departments. Bids should go out in about three months, and groundbreaking is expected in 5-6 months.
