After spending his first few days on the job getting to know the surrounding community, the Bethalto School District’s new superintendent is turning his focus to the upcoming school year. Charles Stegall took over on July 1st following the retirement of Dr. Cindy Blasa. He says he enjoyed meeting various elected officials but that it’s time to focus on a pair of goals he has laid out for the upcoming school year.

Stegall also says that he feels blessed to be surrounded by supportive administrators and a wonderful community.

In other business last night, school board members voted to appoint  Justin Newell as an assistant principal at Civic Memorial High School, approved a pair of transfers from the Working Cash fund to the Transportation and Tort funds, accepted a $22,000 donation from Alton Memorial Hospital that will cover half the salary of the district's athletic trainer,  and announced that school registration will start at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Trimpe Middle School.
