A 70-mile-an-hour speed limit will soon be posted on rural Illinois interstates.  Barring any significant weather events, the Illinois Department of Transportation says it hopes to have new speed limit signs up by January 17th.

In an effort to soothe concerns about high speeds in urban areas, the new law exempts Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, Madison and St. Clair counties.
