Wood River residents will have to use a punch card prior to dumping any brush at the city’s compost facility when new regulations are implemented on November 18th. The City Council discussed the time frame for implementing the new system and the rules that will come with it during Monday night’s meeting. Mayor Fred Ufert proposed waiting until mid-November to issue the punch cards to give city officials a chance to spread the word about the changes.

Steve Palen, Director of Public Services for the City of Wood River hopes this new system curbs the illegal dumping that has been occurring in recent months.

Palen says the cards will be issued to each resident as they visit the facility and that the cards will change color every year.

In other business, the council received news that the city has received a $90,000 grant from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, which will be used to recoup the money spent on upgrades to area surrounding East Alton-Wood River High School.
