Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is apparently pulling out all the stops in making sure lawmakers get a pension deal on the table. In a very unprecedented move, Governor Quinn has suspended the pay of lawmakers. He stripped out the portion of the budget which would ensure lawmakers get their paychecks. Quinn says he also won’t accept a salary until there’s a pension reform bill passed into law.
Quinn warned there would be consequences if lawmakers didn’t do their jobs and put a pension reform bill on his desk by yesterday, July 9th. He says lawmakers shouldn’t get paid until they get the job done. Lawmakers will have to come back to Springfield and reject Quinn’s changes to the budget bill in order to reinstate their pay.
