Part-time Grafton Police Officer Marshall Lewis has been promoted to chief of the department. The Grafton City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Lewis by Mayor Tom Thompson at the city council meeting this week. Lewis has been with the department since November 2014.
The 41-year-old Lewis is a 1993 Jerseyville High graduate and U.S. Marine Corp veteran of 20 years, retiring from service in March of last year. He has military police experience as well as that of a platoon leader during his service in the Marines that included time in Afghanistan. Lewis will take over for former chief Chris Sullivan, who left the department last month after moving out of the area. Lewis has a little more police training to complete before officially becoming a full-time officer and chief.
