Police officers in Wood River have new cars at their disposal.  With the purchase of eight new vehicles at a cost of about $278,000, that brings the total number of patrol cars purchased in the city to 18 over the past two years.

Wood River City Manager Jim Schneider tells The Big Z these cars can be taken home by the officers.

Schneider says there will likely be another purchase of four more unmarked cars at some point next year.  The new vehicles replace a fleet of vehicles that were racking up the miles and costing quite a bit in maintenance, according to Schneider.
