The Alton Police Department has named a new officer to take over the new K9 training. Detective Marcos Pulido had to withdraw from the K9 Academy for personal reasons. Taking his place will be Officer Michael Morelli, who is a former Marine and corrections officer
Public Information Officer Emily Hejna says the training for Morelli and Nikko will continue on schedule.

Detective Pulido led the effort to secure funding for the purchase of a police dog, and Hejna assures that this change in plans will have no bearing on any funds that have been raised.
